Where Is Aaron Mcgruder Now

Hey there, fellow pop culture enthusiasts! You might be wondering, "Whatever happened to Aaron McGruder, the guy behind The Boondocks?" Well, buckle up, 'cause we're about to take a little stroll down memory lane and find out where he's been all this time.

Remember The Boondocks?

If you grew up in the early 2000s, chances are you're familiar with the animated series The Boondocks. It was like that quirky, smart-mouthed cousin who always had something insightful or hilariously sarcastic to say about the world. Aaron McGruder created that cousin, along with the rest of the Freeman family, back in 1997 as a comic strip.

In 2005, the strip made its way to our TV screens, and it was a breath of fresh air. It tackled serious issues like race, politics, and social justice, all wrapped up in a hilarious package. But then, around 2014, it seemed like Aaron just... disappeared. What happened?

So, Where Did Aaron Go?

Well, it turns out Aaron didn't just vanish into thin air. He was busy doing what he does best - creating art that makes us think and laugh. After The Boondocks, he took a little break, and then he popped back up with a new project.

Black Jesus

In 2014, Aaron created Black Jesus, a live-action comedy series for Adult Swim. It's like nothing you've ever seen before - a blend of humor, spirituality, and social commentary. The show follows Jesus, a black man living in Compton, California, who's trying to spread love and kindness in his community.

It's a unique take on the Jesus story, and it's got that same Aaron McGruder twist that makes you laugh out loud one minute and think deeply the next. The show ran for three seasons, wrapping up in 2019.

And Then There Was... Nothing?

After Black Jesus, Aaron seemed to take another break. But this time, he wasn't just chillin' - he was cooking up something big. In 2021, he dropped a bombshell: he was working on a new Boondocks series!

That's right, folks! After years of waiting, we're finally getting more of Huey, Riley, and Granddad. The new series is set to premiere on HBO Max in 2022, and it promises to be just as thought-provoking and hilarious as the original.
