What If I M The Monster That's Been Here All Along

So, there I was, strolling down the street the other day, when I noticed something peculiar. A tiny crack in the pavement, right where I'd been walking for years, suddenly seemed like the Grand Canyon. I mean, had it always been that deep? I bent down to take a closer look, and you know what? I realized, I'd been walking over it every single day, and I'd never even noticed it before.

Now, you might be thinking, "What's the big deal? It's just a crack in the pavement." But stick with me here, because that little crack got me thinking. What if, just like that tiny imperfection in the concrete, I've been the monster that's been here all along? Not the scary, green, Godzilla kind, but the kind that's been lurking right under our noses, unnoticed and unassuming.

Monsters Among Us

We're all familiar with the classic monster tropes, right? The vampires, the werewolves, the ghosts. But what if I told you that the real monsters might not be the ones hiding in the shadows, but the ones we see every day? The ones we pass on the street, the ones we work with, the ones we call friends.

Think about it. How many times have you seen someone do something truly monstrous? A driver cutting off an elderly lady at the intersection, a colleague taking credit for someone else's work, a friend spreading rumors behind your back. These aren't the stuff of horror movies, but they're monsters nonetheless. And guess what? We're all capable of being that monster.

Monsters by Degree

Now, I'm not saying we're all evil, heartless creatures. But I am saying that we all have the capacity to act monstrously, given the right (or wrong) circumstances. It's all about degrees, isn't it? A little white lie here, a small act of selfishness there. We all do it. We're all monsters by degree.

And that's not necessarily a bad thing. After all, it's our imperfections that make us human. It's our flaws that give us depth, that make us relatable, that make us real. But it's important to recognize these flaws, to acknowledge our inner monster, because only then can we truly understand ourselves and others.

Facing Our Inner Monster

So, how do we face our inner monster? Well, it's not as simple as looking in the mirror and saying, "Mirror, mirror, on the wall, who's the most monstrous of them all?" It's about self-reflection, about looking deep within ourselves and asking, "What am I capable of?"

It's about recognizing our biases, our prejudices, our selfish tendencies. It's about admitting when we're wrong, when we've acted monstrously, and it's about making amends. It's about striving to be better, not because we're perfect, but because we're not.

Because here's the thing, my friend. We're all monsters. We're all capable of great good and great evil. But it's our choices that define us. It's our actions that make us who we are. So, let's choose to be the hero, not because we're perfect, but because we're trying.

And who knows? Maybe, just maybe, if we all start looking out for the cracks in the pavement, we'll find that the monster that's been here all along isn't so scary after all. Maybe it's even a little bit like us.
