So, there I was, standing in line at the coffee shop, staring at the menu board like it was written in a language I didn't speak. You know that feeling, right? When you're supposed to be excited about all these amazing options, but you're just... meh.
I mean, don't get me wrong, I love coffee. But lately, it's like my usual order just isn't cutting it anymore. I've been feeling this way about a lot of things, actually. Like, I'm supposed to be thriving, right? I've got a great job, a lovely apartment, and I even started meditating last year. But somehow, I'm just not feeling it. Thrive, that is.
When the Self-Help Hype Fades
I've been on this self-improvement kick for what feels like forever. I've read all the books, listened to all the podcasts, and I even tried that weird floating sensory deprivation tank thing. And sure, I've picked up some great habits and learned a ton of useful stuff. But at the end of the day, I'm still left wondering, where's my thriving?
Must Read
I mean, come on! All these self-help gurus make it sound so easy. Just follow these 10 steps, and bam! You're thriving! But here I am, steps followed, and I'm still just... existing. I'm not saying I'm unhappy, but I'm not exactly jumping for joy either. It's like I'm stuck in this weird limbo, and I'm starting to think I'm not the only one.
Thriving: The Unattainable Goal?
So, I started asking around. Turns out, a lot of people are feeling the same way. We're all supposed to be thriving, right? But what does that even mean? Is it even possible? Or is it just some unattainable goal that we're all chasing, but no one can really reach?
I mean, think about it. We're constantly bombarded with messages about how we should be living our best lives. But what if our best just isn't good enough? What if we're all just doing the best we can, and that's okay? Why do we have to thrive all the time?
Thrive through every season of life
Permission to Just Exist
I'm starting to think that maybe, just maybe, it's okay to not be thriving all the time. Maybe it's okay to have off days, or weeks, or even months. Maybe it's okay to just... exist. Because life isn't always sunshine and rainbows, right? Sometimes it's just... coffee.
So, here's to the coffee drinkers, the book readers, the podcast listeners. Here's to the people who are doing the best they can, and who are okay with that. Here's to thriving, sure, but also to just existing. Because that's okay too.
And if you're still feeling meh about your coffee, try a different flavor. You never know, it might just change your whole day.
