Nfl First Round Picks 2013

So, grab your coffee, get comfy, and let's dive into the NFL Draft's first round of 2013. You know, that magical night when dreams are made, and GMs sweat bullets.

Kickin' Off with the Chiefs

First up, we've got the Kansas City Chiefs. Now, I'm not saying they were praying for Eric Fisher to fall into their laps, but I'm not not saying it either. This OT from Central Michigan was a steal, and Andy Reid's grin said it all. "We got ourselves a left tackle!" he probably exclaimed, doing a little jig in his suit.

Meanwhile, the Jacksonville Jaguars were up next, and they had their eyes on a QB. But which one? The suspense was killing me. Then, like a cat playing with a mouse, they snatched up Blake Bortles. Four years later, they'd finally get to use that pick. Talk about a long-term investment!

QBs Galore

Speaking of QBs, the Cleveland Browns were next, and they had a date with destiny. Or at least, a date with a new signal-caller. They went with Barkevious Mingo, a linebacker from LSU. I know, I know, we were all expecting a QB too. But hey, you can't argue with the Browns' logic. They've got time, right?

The Philadelphia Eagles were up next, and they had their hearts set on a QB. But Chip Kelly had other plans. He traded up to grab Lane Johnson, an OT from Oklahoma. I guess he figured, if you can't beat 'em, join 'em. And by 'em, I mean the Chiefs, who were looking pretty smug with their new left tackle.

Trades and Surprises

Now, here's where things got interesting. The Miami Dolphins traded up to grab Dion Jordan, a DE from Oregon. And then, the New York Jets traded back up to grab Geno Smith. I mean, who needs a first-round pick when you can have two second-rounders, right?

The Detroit Lions were up next, and they had their eyes on a WR. But they went with Ziggy Ansah, a DE from BYU. I guess they figured, if you can't beat 'em, join 'em. And by 'em, I mean the Dolphins, who were looking pretty happy with their new DE.

The Rest of the Round

The Carolina Panthers grabbed Star Lotulelei, a DT from Utah. The New Orleans Saints went with Kenny Vaccaro, a S from Texas. And the Buffalo Bills... well, they went with EJ Manuel, a QB from Florida State. I guess they figured, if you can't beat 'em, join 'em. And by 'em, I mean the Browns, who were probably still trying to figure out what they'd done with that QB pick.

And that, my friend, was the first round of the 2013 NFL Draft. It was a rollercoaster of trades, surprises, and a whole lot of GMs trying to outsmart each other. But hey, that's what makes it fun, right?
