Jalen Hurts: A Quarterback's Journey from Channelview to the NFL

Ever wondered where the Philadelphia Eagles' quarterback, Jalen Hurts, hails from? Let's take a little trip down to Channelview, Texas, where this rising NFL star first laced up his cleats and started his journey to the big leagues.

Channelview, Texas: Where It All Began

Nestled in the southeastern part of Houston, Channelview is a small, tight-knit community where everyone knows everyone. It's here that Jalen Hurts was born on August 7, 1998, to Averion and Pamela Hurts. His parents, both former athletes themselves, instilled in him a strong work ethic and a passion for sports from a young age.

Growing up, Hurts was a jack of all trades when it came to sports. He played baseball, basketball, and football, but it was football that captured his heart. He started playing at the age of seven, and by the time he was in high school, it was clear that he had a special talent.

High School Glory Days

Hurts attended Channelview High School, where he quickly became a standout athlete. He played both football and basketball, but it was on the football field that he truly shined. As a senior, he passed for 3,581 yards and 33 touchdowns, earning him a spot on the Texas Associated Press Sports Editors Class 5A first-team all-state team.

His impressive performance caught the eye of college scouts, and in 2016, Hurts committed to play football at the University of Alabama. Little did he know, this was just the beginning of his incredible journey.

From Alabama to Oklahoma: A Tale of Resilience

Hurts' college career was nothing short of remarkable. He started as the quarterback for the Alabama Crimson Tide, leading them to a national championship in his freshman year. However, after a coaching change, he found himself in a tough position, having to compete for his starting spot.

He also became the first player in NCAA history to throw for 3,000 yards and rush for 1,000 yards in a single season.

NFL Bound

In 2020, Hurts was drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles in the second round of the NFL draft. He made his NFL debut later that year, and despite a slow start, he quickly proved himself to be a valuable asset to the team.

In 2021, Hurts led the Eagles to a 9-8 record and a playoff berth, earning him the title of NFL Comeback Player of the Year. He also became the first quarterback in NFL history to throw for 3,000 yards and rush for 750 yards in a single season.
