Young Bobby, as he was known then, was always a fan of comics and humor magazines. He started his career writing for humor magazines like Your Humor and Cracked. But it wasn't until he moved to New York City that he discovered his true calling.

In the big city, Stine worked as an editor for Young and Rich magazine. But he had a secret dream - to write funny books for kids. And so, in 1986, the first Goosebumps book, The Haunted Mask, was born. The rest, as they say, is history!

Why R.L. Stine Loves to Scare

You might be wondering, why does this guy love scaring kids so much? Well, Stine himself says he never set out to write scary stories. He just wanted to write funny, exciting books that kids would love. But he discovered that a little scare can be a lot of fun!

"I like to scare kids," he once said, "but I never want to make them so scared they can't sleep at night. I want to make them shiver, then laugh, then shiver again." And that, my friends, is the magic of R.L. Stine!

From Goosebumps to Hollywood

Stine's books have sold over 400 million copies worldwide, making him one of the best-selling children's authors of all time. And guess what? His stories have even made it to the big screen! The Goosebumps movie series, starring Jack Black, is a spooky good time for the whole family.
