Baby Dancing Somebody That I Used To Know

So, I was minding my own business the other day, scrolling through the endless abyss that is the internet, when I stumbled upon something that made me do a double-take. I mean, I've seen some weird stuff online, but this was a new level of 'what in the name of all that's holy is happening here?'

It was a video of a baby dancing. Now, before you yawn and click away, let me assure you, this wasn't your average 'aww, look at the little one wobbling to the music' kind of deal. No, no, no. This was a full-on, head-banging, foot-stomping, tiny human rave.

And the song? Well, it wasn't your typical baby jingle either. Oh no, this little whirling dervish was grooving to Somebody That I Used to Know by Gotye. You know, that catchy tune that was everywhere a few years back? The one with the guy singing about his ex and the wallpaper he stole? Yeah, that one.

Now, I'm no expert on babies (although I have been told I have a certain 'je ne sais quoi' when it comes to changing diapers), but I'm pretty sure they're not supposed to know songs that aren't 'Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star' or 'Baa, Baa, Black Sheep'. I mean, when I was a baby, I'm pretty sure my musical repertoire consisted of whatever my mom hummed while she was cooking. And even then, I'm pretty sure it was just 'La Cucaracha' because she was always singing it when she found ants in the kitchen.

But this baby, oh this baby, was a different story. He (yes, I've done my research, it's a boy) was moving to the music like he was possessed by the ghost of Michael Flatley. I mean, I've seen Irish step dancers with less enthusiasm. And the facial expressions! The little guy was giving Blue Steel a run for its money. I swear, at one point, he looked straight into the camera and gave a little shrug, like, 'Yeah, I know, I'm amazing. What are you gonna do about it?'

So, I did what any sane, rational person would do. I showed the video to my friends. And then we showed it to their friends. And then we showed it to their friends' friends. Before we knew it, we had a full-blown 'Baby Gotye' viewing party going on. We were passing around chips and dip, laughing, and marveling at this tiny human's dance moves.

But here's where things get even weirder. We started noticing something strange. Every time we watched the video, we'd see something new. A little wave, a kick, a head bob that we hadn't seen before. It was like watching one of those magic eye pictures. You know, the ones where you're supposed to stare at it until you see a hidden 3D image? Only this was a baby dancing to Gotye.

Now, I'm not saying this baby is some kind of dancing prodigy. I mean, sure, he's got moves that would make Justin Timberlake jealous, but he's still a baby. He's not exactly choreographing his own routines or anything. But still, there's something undeniably charming about watching a tiny human bust a move to a song that's way beyond his years.

And that got me thinking. What if this is the future of music? What if babies are the new tastemakers? I mean, think about it. They're not influenced by trends or peer pressure. They don't care about album sales or chart positions. They just dance to what they like. Maybe we should all be taking dance lessons from babies. I mean, if this little guy can rock out to Gotye, imagine what he could do with some Beyoncé or Bruno Mars.

But seriously, folks, if you haven't seen this video, do yourself a favor and look it up. It's a hoot and a half. Just don't be surprised if you find yourself dancing along. I mean, if a baby can do it, what's your excuse?

And who knows? Maybe one day, this little guy will grow up to be a famous dancer. Or a famous singer. Or maybe he'll just be a famous baby on the internet. Either way, I think we can all agree that he's got a pretty bright future ahead of him. After all, he's already stolen our hearts (and our wallets, because let's face it, we've all bought that Gotye song on iTunes now, haven't we?).

So here's to you, little dancer. Keep on moving, keep on grooving. And if you ever need a backup dancer, you know where to find me. Just don't expect me to match your moves. I've got two left feet and a bad back. But I'll be there, cheering you on, with a bag of chips and a big ol' smile.
