A Beast I Am Lest A Beast I Become

So, I Was Walking My Dog the Other Day...

You know, one of those peaceful mornings, the sun was just peeking over the horizon, casting that golden glow that makes everything look like a postcard. I was walking my trusty hound, Barkley, when we passed by this guy. Let's call him Growler. Now, Growler was a sight. He was walking his dog too, but he looked like he'd just stepped out of a biker gang's reunion. Tattoos, leather jacket, the works. His dog, on the other hand, was a tiny, fluffy thing that looked like it could fit in my pocket.

Now, here's where it gets interesting. Growler sees us, and he starts to growl. I mean, the guy growls. I look at him, then at Barkley, then back at him. I'm thinking, 'Dude, really? Your tiny dog is scared of my big, friendly mutt?' But then, I see it. Growler's not growling at Barkley. He's growling at me.

I'm taken aback, but I decide to play it cool. I give him a nod, like, 'Hey, I see you. You're a tough guy. I get it.' And you know what? He smiled. Yep, the big, bad biker guy smiled at me. Then he said, "Good boy," to his tiny dog, and they walked off.

What Just Happened Here?

So, I started thinking about this. Why did Growler growl at me? Was it because I was a threat? No, because I was clearly walking my dog, not causing trouble. Was it because he was protecting his tiny dog? Maybe, but that's not what he said. He said, "Good boy," to his dog, not "Bad man, go away."

I think Growler growled because he was scared. Scared that I might judge him based on his appearance. Scared that I might think he was a bad guy because of how he looked. And when I acknowledged him, when I showed him that I wasn't going to judge him, he relaxed. He smiled. He was just a guy walking his dog, like me.

Beasts and Judgments

You know, we're all beasts in our own ways. Some of us are beasts because we act like beasts. We growl at people, we judge them based on their appearance, we make assumptions about them. But some of us are beasts because we're afraid of being judged. We're afraid of being misunderstood, so we put up walls. We growl at people before they can growl at us.

But here's the thing. We're all just people walking our dogs. We're all just trying to get through the day without being judged. So, the next time you see someone who looks different, who acts different, remember Growler. Remember that they might be scared too. And instead of growling back, try smiling. You might just make their day.

So, What's the Moral of the Story?

I guess the moral of the story is, don't be a beast. But if you have to be a beast, be a beast that's afraid of being misunderstood. Because at the end of the day, we're all just people walking our dogs. And we could all use a little kindness.

And hey, if you see me walking Barkley, don't be afraid to say hi. I promise, I won't growl.
