If you live or drive in southern Dallas County or northern Ellis County, you know that traveling through the area can already be a challenge. Interstate 20, the closest east-west freeway, lies miles to the north. Existing arterials like Bear Creek Rd. and Belt Line Rd. have become congested over the years and are getting worse as the area adds residential, commercial, and industrial development. More people living, shopping and working in the area means more vehicles on the roads. Heavy truck traffic from a bustling new Inland Port inter-modal freight facility near I-45 coupled with ongoing NAFTA international freight movement adds even more pressure on the area's transportation system. In Ellis County alone, the population increase from year 2000 to 2030 is forecasted to grow from 109,000 to 449,000.

Future Public Hearing

The Loop 9 Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) is being prepared in accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA). This document must undergo review by the TxDOT-Austin office; when approved by TxDOT-Austin, the DEIS must be reviewed and approved by the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) in order to conduct a Public Hearing. The Hearing's date and time will be posted on the website and relayed to all who have registered to be on the project mailing list as well as property owners located within or immediately adjacent to the potential right-of-way. Following the Hearing, a Final EIS (FEIS) will be prepared to recommend an alternative.
